Patrice Bayer

Patrice Bayer

Patrice’s love for movement and musical expression began at an early age when she was enrolled by her parents in ballet and piano at age 5. She studied different types of dance including jazz, tap and modern and continued to study classical ballet through age 15, last 3 years on point shoes. She discovered her love of teaching and leadership and when she started working as a recreation aide for her local county summer program for kids through her high school summers. Always seeking a challenge, the summer after her sophomore year, she enrolled in a summer PE course and was the first female to ever take the course and train with her high-school football teams for pre-season training. “At the beginning of the course, they all kinda looked at me like ‘what is she doing here?’ But by the end of the course I had earned their respect and they cheered me on during our runs and max session lifts. I will never forget my dad stopping by for a surprise visit to class one afternoon and the smile of pride on his face.”  She didn’t play on the football team, but was on the track team, debate team, choir, cheer captain and drill team.

After graduating high-school in 1988, Patrice enrolled as a student at University of Nevada Reno and shortly after becoming a member at the YWCA, she became a certified group exercise instructor of various styles. With an itch for adventure, she, lived worked abroad for 4 years including Berlin, Germany and Warminster, England where she became a certified personal trainer, and taught classes in both countries for both American and British military and dependents and worked in the county of Wiltshire as a group exercise instructor and recreation assistant and also taught the back then (1994) “newly emerging” hip hop to 2 different age groups of 9-11 and 12-15. During this time she also competed in both Fitness and Figure and was featured in Muscle and Fitness Magazine for Ms Fitness Tropicana UK 1995. After moving back to the USA she was hired at 24 hour Fitness as a personal trainer and promoted to Fitness Manager within 6 months, and after 4 years went to part-time as a group exercise instructor to work towards an Associate Degree in Fire Science Technology.

After graduation from the Northern Nevada Fire and Rescue Academy with more college credits, she again competed in North American Naturals in body building and figure. She then began to work toward a Bachelors degree in Psychology/Criminal Justice degree after being accepted to Officer Candidate’s School for the US Marine Corps.  Also, during her college prep time for OCS she worked as as a Recreation Therapist for adolescent Life Skills patients at Washoe Medical Center and as group exercise director for Double Diamond Athletic Club.  She has worked in her fields of study as an on-call youth advisor Washoe County Juvenile Detention and also as a Mental Health Technician for West Hills Hospital.  After working in those fields for a few years she decided to return to her true passion of fitness and teaching as a full-time entrepreneur and has worked as a free-lance trainer/instructor, and then developed a training department and a team of trainers at Gold’s Gym over the last 5 years in northern California. At this last position she also developed an apprenticeship program for trainers and bootcamp classes for members where she has the “trainers in training” learn to teach groups as well as one on one instruction and fundamentals of the core foundations of training, bio-mechanical awareness, client assessment and presentation so they have some practical tools to get them started when they roll out as brand new trainers into a competitive market.

Patrice’s hobbies at various intervals over the years have included hiking, backpacking, rock climbing, mountain biking and waterskiing. Also the practice of Tae Kwon Do, Tai Chi Chuan and different styles of kickboxing, and most recently, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Judo, Yoga and boxing. She has a tremendous respect and appreciation of US military service members and also enjoys supporting various causes, mentoring and is a voluntary strength and conditioning coach for Fight Club 29, a mixed martial arts team comprised of retired and active US Marines and Navy corpsman in Twentynine Palms. She finds great reward in helping all types of clients, from special populations to athletes, reach their health and fitness goals and wants to continue growing and spreading her knowledge to as many people as possible for the duration. After that summer PE football course, Patrice’s pursuit of challenges and love of fitness, lifting weights and teaching have continued, and at age 42, she still feels like a kid most of the time and loves to add grit and comedy sometimes and make it fun for her participants.
